Racing The Rain At The Jeffco 4A/5A League Championships

Emma Stutzman put on a clinic in the final varsity race of the day - that's for sure.

The Pomona junior stormed to an early lead and never looked back. Well, figuratively, she never looked back

By two miles Stutzman had shed any competitive shadows, save for her own. She was off and running well within herself.

Despite the appeared ease of her effort on the course, she was torching not only the competition, but the previous course record.

Stutzman cruised across the finish line in a jaw-dropping 17:47, which demolished the previous course record by 41-seconds. The time was the third sub-18 clocking of her season.

And then the clock ticked on.

A minute-and-one-second later came Chatfield's Hannah Anderson, who finished second in 18:48. The Chatfield sophomore was the only other sub-19 clocking, and it was the fourth-fastest time run on the course. Dakota Ridge's Hanan Aldelemy finished third and right on 19:00, while Reese Tucker finished fourth in 19:20.

With most of their varsity sitting this one out, Valor freshman Caroline Dennis led the way, kicking in to finish fifth in 19:30, which was just ahead of Chatfield freshman Emerson Mullen, who finished sixth in 19:31.

Valor's Bella Vogl, and Gracie Prosceno also crashed the top-10, finishing 8-10, and Jordan Blankenship was just outside in 11th.

Valor and Chatfield each had three inside the top-10, but in the end it would be Valor's depth that played the key roll.

Valor put their top-five inside the top-19 to tally 53 points. Chatfield was second with 57, while Dakota Ridge was third with 72.
